About this Event

Haymarket House is exctied to host author Reda A. Taleb who will discuss her new children’s book, “Noura’s Extraordinary Superpower!” with Andrea Haidar, a licensed Chicago-area social workers, and Maya Atassi, Director of Operations with the Syrian Community Network.

“Noura’s Extraordinary Superpower!” explores the impact of incarceration on children with a specific focus on Arab Americans and Muslims. The book is written for children ages 5 – 11 years old, however, older youth and readers of all ages have found it meaningful as well.

Please join us for a reading and conversation about this important book followed by a reception with light refreshments.

About the speakers:

Reda A. Taleb, author of Noura's Extraordinary Superpower!, is a native Detroiter, and the proud daughter of Lebanese Muslim immigrants. She is a strategic, transformative leader, with a demonstrated history of over 15 years of nonprofit experience that spans civic, legal, entrepreneurial, and social justice movements across the United States. As the Founder/CEO of Dream Catcher Innovations™, Reda serves a national clientele with Nonprofit Development and Management, Program Design and Implementation, Strategy Development and Implementation, Fundraising, Social Impact Movement Building, DEI Advocacy, and Community Building.

Andrea Haidar is a licensed clinical social worker and a doctoral student in clinical psychology at the Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine. Her work is focused on increasing access to mental health services for people of color, immigrants, and refugees. Andrea previously worked as a therapist at the Inner-City Muslim Action Network (IMAN), where she provided services in English, Spanish, and Arabic. Andrea holds a master’s degree in social work and a bachelor's degree in sociology from the University of Chicago.

Maya Atassi is the Director of Operations for SCN (Syrian Community Network).
