The Orchestra of Syrian Musicians.

With fluid grooves, hypnotic chanting, and psychedelic experimentation, Noura Mint Seymali interprets Mauritania’s rich musical traditions. The Womex Artist Award-winning artist has previously delivered unforgettable concerts at both ALICE and the Roskilde Festival, and after years on major stages we are excited to invite her back into an intimate setting in our concert hall – now presenting her new album “Yenbett” on Glitterbeat Records.
Mauritania, on West Africa’s Atlantic coast, has a deep and diverse musical heritage, and Noura Mint Seymali is among the country’s most distinctive voices. She was born into a family of griots, who have passed down stories, poetry, and music through generations. At just 13, she began touring her home country with her powerful voice and impressive mastery of the ardine – the nine-stringed harp traditionally played only by women. She learned the instrument from her grandmother, and since then she has carried forward Mauritanian musical heritage with both respect and innovation.
Together with her husband, Jeiche Ould Chighaly, Noura Mint Seymali has formed a band that bridges tradition and modernity. Chighaly is a master of the tidinit, a string instrument whose distinctive phrasing he transforms into electric psych guitar. With a solid rhythm section and a tight interplay between guitar and vocals, the band transforms Mauritanian traditions into a compelling blend of Saharan funk, psychedelic rock, and West African grooves. Through a series of critically acclaimed releases and extensive touring, Noura Mint Seymali has established herself as one of the most visionary artists from the region, which she was also recognized for with a Womex Artist Award in 2025. She has previously captivated audiences at both ALICE and Roskilde Festival, where in 2016 she helped open the Orange Stage alongside The Orchestra of Syrian Musicians. She now returns to our concert hall with her new album “Yenbett” (Glitterbeat Records, 2025) and her formidable live band.
