To the Norse there were two seasons. Sumar & Vetr. Summer and Winter.
Summer is coming to and end and Winter is about to begin. For Anglo Saxons it begins on Winterfylleth, the first full moon of October. In Iceland it begins with Winter Nights and first month of winter, Gormánuður. The times and names may vary slightly but the end result is still the begining of winter.
