Psychotherapeutic Approach to Somatic Movement Practice promoting self-discovery and meaning making process.
About this Event

“” is my philosophical concept that one can discover something meaningful from intentional exploration. It is a psychotherapeutic approach to somatic movement practice.

This 8 weeks somatic movement class is based on Laban/Bartenieff Movement Studies (LBMS). This practice offers both conceptual and experiential learning to promote self-discovery and meaning making process through various movement exploration.

Participants will

  1. (re)learn basic human movements through six developmental movement patterns
  2. learn various movement elements to enhance individual’s expressions more clearly and dynamically
  3. experience meaning making process by moving, journaling, conceptualizing, and sharing with others
  4. explore activities in solo, duet, small and large group format

WHEN: Thursdays at 7:15-8:45pm 9/1-10/27/2022, except on 9/22 (studio opens 7pm-9pm)

WHERE: Wildcat Dance Studio at the Sawtooth Building in Berkeley

PAYMENT:

  • $50 per 90min class with pre-registration, one week prior to class (ex. registered by 8/25 for class on 9/1)
  • $60 per 90min class for drop-in
  • $400 for 8 classes with one complimentary one-on-one session

*Additional Offering: anyone who wants to perform on the stage or virtual format, I facilitate choreography based on the materials that participant discovers from the class.

*Social Activity: each week after the class, we will head to a community-run Contact Improvisation Thursday Jam (8pm-11pm) at Finnish Hall in Berkeley. It can facilitate your implication how the class materials can be applied into improvisational movement practice.
