Nothing est un groupe de shoegaze américain né à Philadelphie autour du chanteur et compositeur Domenic “Nicky” Palermo. Depuis ses débuts en 2010 comme projet solo, Nothing a constamment repoussé les contours du genre, transformant les codes du shoegaze en un langage plus abrasif, massif et émotionnellement frontal.
Entre murs de guitare saturés, distorsions industrielles et éclats de mélancolie plus dépouillée, le groupe explore les extrêmes de l’expérience humaine, de la rage à la fragilité la plus intime. Leur album A Short History of Decay (Run For Cover Records) incarne cette dualité, élargissant encore leur palette sonore.
Porté par une formation renforcée et des collaborations avec Nicholas Bassett ou Sonny Diperri, Nothing développe une esthétique à la fois monumentale et vulnérable. Des morceaux comme Cannibal World ou Purple Strings, où intervient notamment la harpiste Mary Lattimore, illustrent cette tension entre chaos et délicatesse.
Conçu comme une forme de “chapitre final”, ce disque ne clôt pas seulement une période : il condense une trajectoire entière faite de désillusion, de réinvention et d’excès sonores, confirmant Nothing comme l’un des projets les plus singuliers du shoegaze contemporain

Nothing is een Amerikaanse shoegaze-band uit Philadelphia, opgericht rond zanger en componist Domenic ‘Nicky’ Palermo. Sinds de start in 2010 als soloproject heeft Nothing de grenzen van het genre voortdurend verlegd en de codes van de shoegaze omgevormd tot een schurender, massiever en emotioneel directer geluid. Tussen verzadigde gitaarmuren, industriële vervormingen en uitbarstingen van meer sobere melancholie verkent de band de uitersten van de menselijke ervaring, van woede tot de meest intieme kwetsbaarheid. Hun album ‘A Short History of Decay’ (Run For Cover Records) belichaamt deze dualiteit en verbreedt hun klankpalet nog verder.
Gesteund door een versterkte bezetting en samenwerkingen met Nicholas Bassett en Sonny Diperri ontwikkelt Nothing een esthetiek die zowel monumentaal als kwetsbaar is. Nummers als ‘Cannibal World’ of ‘Purple Strings’, waarin onder meer harpiste Mary Lattimore te horen is, illustreren deze spanning tussen chaos en verfijning. Dit album, dat is opgevat als een soort ‘slothoofdstuk’, sluit niet alleen een periode af: het avt een heel traject samen dat bestaat uit desillusie, vernieuwing en sonische excessen, en bevestigt daarmee dat Nothing een van de meest unieke projecten binnen de hedendaagse shoegaze is.
