Notes & Narratives is a monthly series that brings traditional music, song and dance to life through performance, storytelling and conversation with leading traditional Irish musicians artists and researchers. This month’s speaker Emmett Gill will discuss 'The Revival of Pipemaking in Ireland (1898-1908)'.
This talk will examine the state of Irish pipemaking in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. We'll look at the some of the pipemakers who emerged during this period including RL O'Mealy, John Henebry and William Rowsome, and outline some of the factors that led to the emergence of these new makers.
