Not Your Mama's Wine: Rethinking Past Wine Trends

Like so many industries, wine is incredibly susceptible to trends. And, like so many trends, many wine trends have gotten completely out of hand, and when they became unpopular, consumers were put off of certain wines forever. For example, the overly buttery Chardonnay wines we find on the grocery shelves today - "Butter" I'm looking at you - have caused huge numbers of wine drinkers to avoid any Chardonnay they see, eventhough it is one of the most diverse grapes in the world! This is a pattern that has repeated over and over across the history of wine, and Erin is here to ease you back into some balanced, traditional wines who's reputations may have been ruined by past trends. All rosé is not sweet like White Zinfandel, and all Napa Cabernet has not undergone the overly high-alcohol and oaky "Parkerization" that we saw in the 1990s. Let's taste some of the wines that didn't fall for the trendy!
