Your favorite community playdate is back and ready to Not "just" Play! at Joe Henry Memorial Park on Friday, April 26th! PLEASE NOTE: We will have additional NJP events on May 10th & May 24th and will then break for the summer. We usually start back up in September/October depending on the weather, but will announce actual dates as it gets closer.
Come dressed in play clothes, bring plenty of drinking water and let's have fun!
Have you heard about Not "just" Play! family play sessions? These pop-up play sessions are a place the whole gang can come make new friends, explore an outdoor environment, and simply PLAY!
ABOUT:
Facilitators bring open-ended supplies and materials to support collaborative pretend play that most often appeal to children around 1-10 years, although all ages are welcome!
Sensory activities such as playdough, oobleck, and bubbles are always a hit. We have blankets, board books, and other open-end loose parts for even the youngest babes to explore, all set in a beautiful natural outdoor environment. The goal is for parents and caregivers to be able to relax and get to know one another with the young children, as the older ones run off to experience the mysterious and magical terrain of their imaginations.
WHY:
We call the sessions, Not "just" Play, because children learn about the world by playing! Math, science, reading, physical fitness, social emotional development, spiritual development- ALL of it can and is best learned when a child is motivated from within. One of our most important jobs as parents and caregivers is to truly listen to the interests of our children and to help them ask and answer questions about the world. This exploration starts with good old fashioned neighborhood playing, and this is the kind of community we aim to recreate here. The work of children is to make sense of the information they take in each day through playing, and that work should never be dismissed as "just."

TIMEFRAME:
We'll be ready to play at 10am. By arriving close to that time you can help ensure that the children have ample time to get to know new kids, explore the environment, and engage deeply with their shared ideas. Bring plenty of drinking water and clothes for potentially getting messy!
