'Nosferatu' with Live Score by Edwin Montgomery

F.W. Murnau's timeless 1922 horror masterpiece, Nosferatu: A Symphony of Horror, is widely regarded to be the first and best vampire film ever made and 102 years on, it can still chill the blood.

Join us this Halloween for a screening of this silent cinematic jewel with an original score performed live by composer and multi-instrumentalist, Edwin Montgomery.

Using loop pedals and ghostly distortions, Edwin works with synths, violin, guitar, theremin, mandolin, voice and percussion to create an eerie, and provocative soundscape for this darkly Gothic movie. This is the way Nosferatu should be experienced.

Dress for Halloween and bring someone to hold onto.

ACCESSIBILITY
Brunswick Mechanics Institute is a wheelchair accessible venue, with an accessible bathroom. The venue operates all on one level. There are no stairs, steps or lifts within the building, however flooring can be uneven in places. Accessible entry to the building is via the front door, which has a ramp to its right (if viewing from Sydney Road.). This is the main entrance and exit to the building for all patrons.

General permit parking is available in the carpark directly behind the venue with entry located on David St. The car park permit hours of operation are 8am – 5pm. Parking after 5pm is free.

There are 2 x wheelchair accessible parking spaces located at the corner of David St and Glenlyon Rd, and another 2 x wheel chair accessible parking spaces located a little further down Glenlyon Rd, in front of the Brunswick Community Health Centre.

If navigating to the venue entrance from these parking spaces, you’ll need to head back up Glenlyon Rd (towards Sydney Road), in order to enter the venue.

Route #19 from the CBD and Flinders Street Station to North Coburg & Route #19 from North Coburg to the CBD and Flinders Street Station

Stop at Sydney Road and Brunswick Town Hall (stop 23) coming from the city or stop at Sydney Road and Glenlyon Road (stop 21) coming from North Coburg

BY BUS:

Route 506 - Moonee Ponds to Westgarth Station (via Brunswick) & Westgarth Station to Moonee Ponds (via Brunswick)

By train:

Jump on the Upfield Line from Flinders Street Station or Upfield Station and stop at Brunswick Station

By car:

There is limited free 2HR parking on David Street (behind our venue). Please do not use the carpark behind the building, as this is permit-only and used by several local businesses and neighbours

By bike:

The Upfield bike path is very close to us. Exit the bike path at Dawson street and ride towards Sydney Road and Glenlyon Road

EDWIN MONTGOMERY

With a background in classical composition and a Masters Degree from AFTRS in composing for screen, Edwin Montgomery is a composer, musician and mixed media artist who works across film, games, immersive theatre, installations and mixed media artworks. They are known for the epic orchestral soundtrack to Warhammer 40,000: Regicide (nominated for Best Audio at the Australian Game Developer Awards), the dystopian soundtrack to Wasteland (released by Remote Control Records) and their live solo performances of original multi-instrumental film scores.

Their film credits include the Oscar nominated feature documentary Time, which won Best Documentary Directing at Sundance 2020 and is currently screening on Prime. Edwin also creates sonic-driven interactive multimedia artworks and games, including Neon Cyborg Cat Club (winner of the Freeplay Experimental Game Award); and Isolationist Nightclub Simulator, an interactive music experience showcased at SXSW Sydney. As part of The Parallel Effect they have created sound and music for the global Vigil for the Smooth Handfish and the immersive AI driven work, Message From Another You. Recently they composed the music for the John Olsen tribute projected onto the Sydney Opera House sails for the opening night of Vivid Sydney 2023.
Edwin lives ands works on what always was and always will be sovereign Aboriginal land and would like to acknowledge that this performance will be taking place on the unceded lands of the Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung people of the Eastern Kulin Nations in a place known as Bulleke-bek.
Edwin is a proud member of and encourages other artists living and working on Aboriginal land to join.
