Where the Cookout Meets the Convention
The Northwest Blerd Convention is a celebration of Black people in fandom — loud, creative, unapologetic, and community-centered.
Hosted at Washington Hall, NW Blerd Con brings together anime lovers, gamers, comic fans, cosplayers, artists, creatives, collectors, DJs, musicians, and community builders for a convention experience rooted in culture, connection, and joy.
This isn’t just another convention.
This is the space between the cookout and the convention center.
Between anime nights and family reunions.
Between internet fandom and real-life community.
Between the “blerd by proxy” and the proud blerd.
Whether you were the kid drawing anime in class, the cousin running the UNO table, the gamer carrying the squad, or the creative building your own lane — this event was built with you in mind.
What To Expect
🎨 The Artist Promenade
Featuring independent artists, makers, illustrators, designers, creators, and small businesses bringing original art, collectibles, fashion, handmade goods, prints, accessories, comics, manga-inspired work, and more.
🍗 Food Vendors & Community Vibes
Because no real community event is complete without good food, good people, and conversations that turn strangers into cousins by the end of the night.
🃏 Spades, UNO & Dominoes
Competitive. Loud. Possibly disrespectful. Exactly how it should be.
🎮 Gaming, Fandom & Nerd Culture
Anime, comics, gaming, cosplay, horror, sci-fi, internet culture, nostalgia, and everything in between.
📸 Cosplay & Community Expression
Come fully suited up or pull up casual — both are welcome here.
🏆 Community Competitions
Including:
Silkiest Press
Best Dressed
Hater of the Year (Official Cosplay Competition)
Yes, we are absolutely serious.
🎤 Special Presentation at Eleven:Eleven
Daniel Bash presents:
“Death to the Nerd! Long Live the Blerd! A Historical Interrogation” | A conversation exploring Black identity within nerd culture, fandom history, cultural acceptance, exclusion, evolution, and what the rise of “blerd culture” means today.
Why NW Blerd Con Exists
Black nerd culture has always existed.
We’ve always loved anime.
Always played the games.
Always made the art.
Always argued about power scaling.
Always cosplayed.
Always built community around the things we loved.
But a lot of us learned to split ourselves in half to fit in.
The Northwest Blerd Convention exists to close that gap.
This event is about creating space where Black fandom is centered — not treated like an afterthought.
It’s about celebrating creativity.
It’s about supporting independent artists and creators.
It’s about seeing people who look like you in the spaces you love.
And honestly, it’s about having a really good time with people who get the reference.
