Northshore Concert Band: Grace & Gathering

Music comes alive with youthful energy — restless, exuberant, and eager to be shared. Carlos Simon’s Amen! captures that spirit through call and response, soulful song, and mounting rhythmic fervor, building toward an ecstatic affirmation of worship. Zhou Tian’s Vivo keeps the pulse racing with buoyant rhythm, shimmering harmony, and the sheer exhilaration of making music together. Vichnaya Pamyat, drawn from Hildur Guðnadóttir’s Emmy- and Grammy-winning score for the HBO miniseries Chernobyl, offers a poignant moment of contrast: a collective act of mourning that honors those lost in the disaster. Youthful exuberance returns to the forefront as teacher-nominated middle school musicians join the Band for its celebrated Lifetime of Music program, sharing the stage in music of bold adventure, timeless beauty, and infectious energy.

Northshore Concert Band (NCB) is a 100-member symphonic band active in the Chicago metropolitan area. Founded in 1956, the Band is internationally known and respected for its musical excellence, leadership in community music, and commitment to music education. NCB presents 6-10 concerts per season, including a four-concert subscription series housed at Northwestern University's Pick-Staiger Concert Hall.
