About this Event
Northshore Concert Band opens its 70th season with a powerful journey from darkness to light. Shostakovich’s Prelude in E-flat Minor sets a somber tone, its weighty harmonies giving way to brilliance and virtuosity as the program unfolds. Adolphus Hailstork’s American Guernica offers a poignant remembrance of four children killed in a racially motivated church bombing in 1963, juxtaposing the terror of the attack with gospel-tinged moments of introspection and hope. The Band presents the world premiere of a new work by composer Henry Dorn, a compelling new voice in wind band music, inspired by the deep emotional resonance that outlasts actions and words. Superstar sibling trumpeters Christopher Martin and Michael Martin take center stage in a dazzling duo arrangement of Bizet’s Carmen, trading melodies, flourishes, and cadenzas in a fiery showcase of the opera’s most cherished themes. The concert closes on a lighter note with Saint-Saëns’ quickstep Pas redoublé — an exhilarating spark to cap an afternoon of reflection, resilience, and renewal.
