Our favorite gathering of fellowship, fun, and learning is right around the corner, and we’re bringing you movers and shakers from across Montana and beyond to help us commemorate the occasion! Join us at Northern Plains’ 53rd Annual Meeting: Looking Beyond our Fences: Courage and Connection amidst Crisis
Since our founding in 1972, Northern Plains has recognized that whether we’re from the plains, mountains, cities or towns, all of us share the common goal to protect this place we love and call home. We began when neighbors organized themselves to defend their ranches, farms, and livelihoods from plans to strip mine huge swaths of eastern Montana. We’re inspired by that “neighboring” spirit of our founders, knowing we must stand shoulder-to-shoulder to tackle the problems of today that threaten our tomorrow.
At a time when too many fan the flames of division, Northern Plains brings folks together, uniting people from differing backgrounds and perspectives under a shared purpose. Join us this year as we look to connect with one another, bolstering our collective courage to address today’s most complex challenges, together. If we look beyond our fences, listen to one another, and keep our minds open, we will find creative solutions to secure a clean, healthful environment for all.
This year, we will be back at The Pub Station in downtown Billings. We’re excited to come together again in a locally owned and operated space that builds community and cultivates creativity.

The two-day event allows us to reconnect with old friends, meet new, likeminded individuals, and learn about all the great work that’s happening across the state. We’ll learn more about shifting the narrative on clean energy, the role of family farms and ranches in conserving the land, effective efforts to protect Eastern Montana’s working landscapes, and about the challenges facing small towns and counties as they work to develop a sustainable future in the heart of coal country. We will also be offering a virtual streaming option via Zoom to allow anyone to learn from our speakers and panelists, no matter where they live. Plus, we’ll have plenty of entertainment, opportunities for connection, and a great auction with one-of-a-kind Montana-made goods, local art, getaways, and more. We hope to see you there!
