Northern Ireland Peace Index Report Launch
About this Event
Northern Ireland Peace Index Report Launch
The official launch of the inaugural Northern Ireland Peace Index, a transformative assessment of peace across Northern Ireland will take place in September.
This event will take place in Belfast.
There will also be an event in Derry/ Londonderry on 3 September.
Developed in a partnership between Queen's University Belfast (QUB) and the Institute for Economics and Peace (IEP), the report measures both Negative Peace (the absence of violence and fear of violence) and Positive Peace (the attitudes, institutions and structures that help societies thrive peacefully). It is the first time IEP's internationally recognised peace frameworks have been applied at the sub-national level in Northern Ireland.
Drawing on publicly available data, the report provides a detailed picture of how peace has changed across Northern Ireland and within each of its eleven Local Government Districts. The research was funded by UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) through the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC).
At the launch, the authors will present the report's key findings, discuss regional trends, and explore what the results mean for policy, practice and the future of peacebuilding in Northern Ireland.
Confirmed speakers:
Andrew Thomson, Reader in Peace and Conflict Studies and Institute Fellow, University Belfast
Dominic Bryan, Professor in Anthropology and Institute Fellow, Queen’s University Belfast
Brett Savill, Chief Operating Officer, Institute for Economics and Peace, Sydney, Australia
A light lunch will be provided.
