Roller derby is a full contact sport on roller skates that combines strength, agility and teamwork. But don't worry, we'll teach you everything you need to know and there's absolutely NO EXPERIENCE NECESSARY.
North Wales Roller Derby invite you to join us this October to try roller skating and learn about roller derby. What's more this session is free.
There will be lots of experienced skaters for you to ask all your questions and help you find your feet.
You must be 18 or over to participate.
Due to the ongoing pandemic, it would be preferable for you to have your own kit (quad skates, helmet, wrist guards, elbow pads and knee pads) but we can loan you kit if necessary.

Q1: DO I NEED TO KNOW HOW TO SKATE TO COME ALONG?
Nope! You don't need any previous skating experience. We will support you and teach you the basics of skating posture and stride. Then when you have grasped that we will focus on teaching you how to stop safely and how to fall safely. Falling over is part of the sport, it's nothing to worry about and we'll help you learn the best ways to fall without hurting yourself.
Q2: HOW MUCH DOES A SESSION COST?
The taster session is FREE for new sign-ups and will be for the first month (every Monday during October), then £25 as a monthly membership fee if you wish to stay on with us.
Q3: DO I NEED MY OWN SKATES AND SAFETY EQUIPMENT?
Not to start with but it is preferable due to the Covid-19 pandemic. If you really can't get the kit, then we can loan you skates and all of the safety equipment you need to get going. Once you have been skating a few weeks and your certain you want to continue, we'll advise you on buying your own kit. If you do require to loan any kit, you will need to let us know beforehand on the registration form below.
Q4: WHAT SHOULD I BRING WITH ME TO THE SESSION?
WATER! Bring plenty of water with you (1 litre minimum) skating can get hot and you will need to keep hydrated! Skating around is sweaty work.
Q5: WHAT SHOULD I WEAR?
Do wear: loose fitting or stretchy comfortable clothing such as a tshirt or tank top and leggings or sports shorts.
Dont wear: anything with embellishments such as studs or sequins. Avoid wearing jeans or any restrictive button up shirts or jumpers.
