About this Event
The Nordic Bronze Age represents a fascinating chapter in prehistory. During the Nordic Bronze Age, about 1700 to 500 BC, Scandinavia excelled in its bronze craftsmanship and prolific petroglyphic rock art. Trade routes from the Baltic Sea to the Mediterranean were active with the exchange of amber for bronze and other precious commodities. Maritime trade also expanded during this era. Features attributed to Vikings already existed and continued to develop during the Nordic Bronze Age. Depictions of ships, warriors and animals appeared in the rock art of southern Scandinavia. In many ways, some scholars find the Nordic Bronze Age more interesting than the Viking Age. Archaeologists from major universities in Denmark, Norway, Sweden and Finland will talk about this extraordinary era. Lectures are for the general public, with ample time for questions and interaction and discussions with like-minded participants.
