Call for Proposals

The College of Arts & Humanities, University of Glasgow invites partners and participants to submit proposals to present and discuss their research and practice as part of the vibrant research community of the University of Glasgow.

The NMD Conference, presented in collaboration with the Music subject area within the College of Arts & Humanities, will comprise two days of exchange and discussion on current musical practices across the Nordic region and Scotland. We would be delighted to receive submissions from artists, composers, educators, engineers, performers, practitioners, producers, programmers, researchers and any other participants in the festival.

The following thematic areas are offered as a stimulus but are non-exclusive and all proposals relating to the festival’s focus on Nordic and Scottish contemporary music and sound are welcome:

· ethics of music education & community music-making

· boundaries in music education

· inclusivity, accessibility

· community choirs, ensembles

· cultural crosscurrents

·developments in accessibility

The expected format of presentations will be 20-minute papers or talks followed by 10 minutes for discussion. Other formats may be proposed (e.g. panel discussions) within the 30-minute total duration.

Abstracts should be submitted by the closing date of Friday 12th July 2024 to .

Notifications will be circualted by the end of August.


Terms of Conference Participation

Please note that the University will not provide a fee, travel or accommodation for selected proposals; it is expected that participants are either self-funding or supported by their institution. For freelancers who are not associated with an institution/ employer and who are participating in the Nordic Music Days festival, a bursary may be available. Please indicate in your submission if you require this.
