Managed lanes are a proven congestion management strategy in California, offering

benefits such as improved travel-time reliability, reduced congestion, emissions, and

enhanced overall corridor performance. They also provide incentives for travelers to shift

to higher-occupancy modes like carpools, vanpools, transit, and until recently, served as

an incentive for clean air vehicle usage. Today’s presentation will highlight Caltrans’ past,

current, and future efforts in managed lanes, including upcoming guidance and an outlook

of new managed lane project types that support a more efficient, sustainable, and

multimodal transportation system across the state.
