2026 | Dir. William D. Caballero

For 20 years, director William D. Caballero pointed a camera at his Puerto Rican family: the everyday moments, the arguments, the love. Then loss came, more than once. So Caballero and his mother picked up something new—glue, cardboard, and tiny handmade figures of the people and homes they'd lost—and started rebuilding what they couldn't hold onto any other way. TheyDream is a documentary that blends stop-motion, hand-drawn animation, and home-movie footage into a single, tactile record of loss. In the process, he and his mother discover that every act of creation is also an act of letting go.

Durante 20 años, el director William D. Caballero enfocó su cámara hacia su familia puertorriqueña: los momentos cotidianos, las discusiones, el amor. Entonces llegó la pérdida, más de una vez. Así que Caballero y su madre se lanzaron a algo nuevo —pegamento, cartón y diminutas figuras hechas a mano de las personas y los hogares que habían perdido— y comenzaron a reconstruir aquello a lo que no podían aferrarse de ninguna otra forma. TheyDream es un documental que combina stop-motion, animación dibujada a mano y material de vídeo casero en un único y tangible testimonio de la pérdida. En el proceso, él y su madre descubren que cada acto de creación es también un acto de dejar ir.
