Javi hasn’t been back to Puerto Rico in years. He returns for his grandfather’s funeral and finds an island he’d almost forgotten—one summer, two new friends, and a love triangle that changes everything.

Summer of Three is a family project in the truest sense. Director Carlitos Ruiz-Ruiz cast his own son, Marcel Ruiz (One Day at a Time), who also co-wrote the film. Shot on location in Manatí and Vega Baja, with reggaetón and Boricua indie music woven throughout, this coming-of-age story offers an authentic portrait of family, identity, and belonging.

Javi lleva años sin volver a Puerto Rico. Regresa para el funeral de su abuelo y se encuentra con una isla que casi había olvidado: un verano, dos nuevos amigos y un triángulo amoroso que lo cambia todo.

Summer of Three es un proyecto familiar en el sentido más auténtico. El director Carlitos Ruiz-Ruiz eligió a su propio hijo, Marcel Ruiz (One Day at a Time), quien también ha coescrito el guion. Rodada en localizaciones de Manatí y Vega Baja, con reguetón y música indie boricua entretejidos a lo largo de la trama, esta historia de paso a la madurez ofrece un retrato auténtico de la familia, la identidad y el sentido de pertenencia.
