Diaz Music Institute proudly presents Nestor Torres, the GRAMMY® award-winning flautist, in an extraordinary performance at Houston’s iconic Miller Outdoor Theater. Torres, renowned for his musical brilliance, will take the stage with Caliente, Houston’s award-winning youth Latin jazz ensemble, and the Houston Latin Jazz Orchestra, the city’s premier Latin jazz group, under the direction of GRAMMY®-nominated music educator Jose Antonio Diaz.This special event, titled “Noche Caliente” (Hot Night), promises a vibrant celebration of Hispanic culture through the magic of music. The evening will feature a stunning fusion of rhythms and melodies, as Torres engages in a musical dialogue with some of the brightest emerging talents from Caliente and the seasoned professionals of the Houston Latin Jazz Orchestra. Together, they will deliver an electrifying night of jazz, Latin rhythms, and world-class artistry.
Past performers at Noche Caliente include: Eddie Palmieri, Bobby Valentin, Johnny Pacheco, Pete Escovedo, Dave Valentin, Larry Harlow, Poncho Sanchez, Michael Stuart, Oscar Hernandez, and many more. This year, the tradition continues with an event that crosses cultural boundaries and speaks to the heart of the Hispanic community, embracing diversity through music and dance.

Equally fluent in Jazz, Classical and Latin Music, Nestor Torres’ melodic and rhythmical flute sound sets him apart. His career spans over 25 years and includes 16 CDs (including his most recent productions, Jazz Flute Traditions and del Caribe soy!), 4 Latin Grammy nominations, 1 Latin Grammy Award and a Grammy nomination, as well as collaborations with the likes of Tito Puente, Herbie Hancock, Ricky Martin, Dave Mathews, Gloria Estefan, and performances with, among others, The New World, Cleveland and Singapore Symphonies. As an educator, Nestor Torres has taught and lectured at the University of Southern California, University of Warwick in England, and University of Akron among others. He is also founder of The Cuban Danzon/Charanga Ensemble at Florida International University, and has received two honorary doctorate degrees for his commitment to youth, education, and cultural exchanges.
