Writing as a mindfulness practice beyond the narrative of Self...
About this Event

We welcome Moudi Sbeity to Season 18!

"Finding the archetypal Self has been a topic of deep contemplation across various spiritual, psychological, and philosophical traditions. What is it? How do we come to know it? What does it mean to become our most crucial selves? Is the Self something real, fixed, and graspable?

Perhaps it is closer to what Carl Jung taught, as did the Buddha; that the self is an ongoing journey of discovering wholeness, empty of a solid identity. It is no doubt then, that our mystical and esoteric traditions implore us to know ourselves and inquire into the nature of who we are.

Once having done so, we can go beyond the self narrative in recognition of the interdependence of all things. Alongside mindfulness and meditation practices as forms of inquiry, writing has also long been regarded as a foundational practice in cultivating awareness of self and empathy.

We’ll explore the use of language, symbols, mythology, and story to facilitate insight by encouraging a genuine encounter with direct experience, in hopes that we may awaken to the truth that if there is no true self, then truly there is no such thing as other."
