No Strangers: Get to Deep Relationships Quickly

Want to establish characters with strong relationships at the top of the scene? Do you ask questions instead of making statements or rely heavily on your scene partner to make choices about your relationship instead of making them yourself? If so, this workshop is for you.

In this workshop, Sonia Nam of New York will help you learn how to get to the heart of your relationship efficiently by adopting an assumption mindset, allowing you to get to songs that are deeper and richer as a result.

Students will learn how to make quick choices to endow themselves and their scene partners with gifts that establish a shared history and flesh out their relationship, and how to use revelations to earn songs that are rooten in deep emotion and high stakes.

All Levels: This workshop is open to students with some improv performance experience.

About the Instructor

Sonia Nam is a performer based in New York City. She trained at UCB, The Annoyance and at the Magnet Theater. You can catch her (not too unlike one of those renowned Japanese pocket monsters—just use actual poke to lure her in) performing weekly at the Magnet Theater in New York City on her house teams: Wednesdays on Megawatt with her house team Macbeth AKA The Scottish Improv Team if you’re a coward and Thursdays on Musical Megawatt with her house team Houndstooth, but she also performs with Shoes Off, a team with an all Asian cast, and select Saturdays with Comedy Sportz at The Rat in DUMBO! In addition, she has an unhealthy obsession with her dog, but he has a normal healthy relationship with her—so it all works out.
