About this Event

This listen party will take place on the unceded land of the Gadigal people of the Eora nation. We acknowledge and pay our respects to the Traditional Owners of Country, and recognise that sovereignty was never ceded. Always was, always will be Indigenous land.

Join us for the release of a never-before heard First Nations audio drama!

Sit down with a bite to eat and listen to the new audio drama adaptation, No Going Home, then enjoy us for our After Show Yarn, a discussion panel with creatives involved in the production, including author of the original short story, Marcus Waters and scriptwriter Blayne Welsh, hosted by Mikaela Ford.

Trigger Warning: This audio drama features themes and scenes that may be potentially triggering to listeners. These include discussions and depictions of mass M**der and genocide. Viewer discretion is advised, always put yourself first.

No Going Home, set in colonial Australia, explores how Indigenous cultures were distorted and warped by invaders through the lens of a contentious father-son relationship. Dundalli has been instilling fear in settlers for years as they continue to encroach ever further inland. Until Make-a-Light, the nephew of the frontier warrior, declares himself a warrior of God and dons the uniform of the enemy. What starts as a rebellion against family and tradition becomes a struggle between violence and pacifism, and a questioning of what shape culture takes both under colonial rule, and now in post-colonial Australia.

In the Interest of Transparency...

While No Going Home was assisted by a Creative Australia grant, we (as creative projects often do) spent all of our budget on the production of the audio drama and have, well, nothing left for the actual delivery. But we wanted to get this out to you. We wanted this story heard, because we think it’s an important one to tell. We’ve been very thankful for the support offered to us by the Our Race Community and Koori Radio, as without them we wouldn’t have even been able to get this far with release, and we’d like to turn to you for help with that as well. The money from ticket sales will be going into paying for our panelists’ time and work, so we ask that if you are able to, you pay the full standard price for tickets, and if you have the money (though we recognise we’re in a cost of living crisis) please consider either donating, or paying for a First Nations ticket through the donation option, so that we can offer First Nations persons free entry to this event. Thank you for your time, your understanding, and your money if you have it. We look forward to seeing you there.
