The National Museum of Mexican Art proudly presents the 31st annual Sor Juana Festival, celebrating the legacy of Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz, a trailblazing 17th-century Mexican nun, writer, and intellectual who championed women’s rights and education. This year’s theme ,“Redefining Narratives Through
Impact, ” honors the transformative power of first-voice experiences, amplifying the stories of women who break barriers and inspire the next generation of visionaries.

Presented in collaboration with Museica’s Art Studio, La Decima Musa is a two-day, multidisciplinary arts event celebrating the life and advocacy work of Sor Juana Ines de La Cruz. Its mission is to highlight women and the LGBTQ+ community and create a safe space to explore what Sor Juana was most passionate
about: poetry, art, music, and education.
This two-day event will feature artists Julieta Zavala, Erika Latines, Jaqui Arte, DJ Roxyo Sounds, Madera Once, and The Braided Janes

Day 1 will feature a selection of artists showcasing Fashion, Music, Art, and a Market by the Mexican Folk Art Collective. Be inspired by a fashion presentation by Julieta Zavala, whose designs blend cultural heritage with sustainability. Additionally, a spoken word performance by Erika “with a K”. Immerse
yourself in the colorful world of visual artist Jaqui Arte, who'll be live painting. DJ Roxyo Sounds will delight us with a sonic cocktail of alternative Latin-American music. The first night will close with a live musical performance from Madera Once and The Braided Janes, a queer, femme-fronted Latin alternative band making waves nationwide.

Day 2 will feature a series of workshops by artist Gabriela Jiménez Marván, who brings Mexican folk art to life through clay and drawings. The workshop will be a clay sculpture-making workshop titled "Volar" which explores creating unique sculptures that represent what freedom means to each guest. The workshop will be tied to Sor Juana and her ability to transcend through her creative expression.
Event Collaborator Jessica Rodríguez (Museica) is a Mexican-American multidisciplinary artist, educator, and activist from Chicago. She is the singer-songwriter for The Braided Janes and the founder of Museica’s Art Studio, a creative space in Bucktown. Holding a B.A. in Business Marketing from Northeastern Illinois University, she blends her passion for art and music to inspire change. A first-generation Chicana and gun violence survivor, Jessica uses her art to foster healing and inclusivity. She co-founded The Braided Janes in 2011 and opened Museica’s Art Studio in 2017, quickly making it a Chicago staple. She is currently expanding her multidisciplinary arts programming across the U.S. and internationally.
