A double bill of electroacoustic vocal performances by mainstay Chicago experimentalists. Daniel Burke (Illusion of Safety) presents his "post classical ambient minimalism" solo project, and sound composer Christophe Preissing (NON:op) and artist/poet Matt perform a "controlled, time-limited psycholinguistic exposure" for fixed audio, voice, homemade instruments, and visual images.
From the artists:
"Daniel James Burke presents Twilight Furniture: Post classical ambient minimalism. Playing with meditative states, soothing introspection, repetition, electronic synthesis, kosmische, acoustic chamber, drone, minimalist composition & improvisation. Skirting genre, playing with form, tradition, and innovation opening space for experiential access while surrendering to flow with a few emotive detours."
"STRESS TEST is a performance session that constitutes a controlled, time-limited psycholinguistic exposure designed to examine participant response to escalating semiotic saturation, iterative verbal and sonic repetitions, oppositions, multiplications, proliferations, reorientations, and staged sensory withdrawal. The TEST will consist of four “Rounds” comprised of a series of micro-aggressions that follow the structure of the Therapeutic Model. 1. The Lover Round (check ins among all participants). 2. The Warrior Round (accountability and clearings to tighten the container). 3. The Magician Round (personal exploration and transformation). 4. The King or Sovereign Round (wants—stretches—blessings). From a psychiatric and cognitive-linguistic standpoint, the session may be understood as a live study in language destabilization, attentional modulation, and the phenomenology of structured verbal saturation, with potential transient induction of quasi-hallucinatory perceptual processing in normative populations."
