Join us on Saturday, August 29, 2026, 4-6pm: TOPAZ ARTS hosts Nita Noveno & Guests for the Queens Launch Celebration! Mud on the Moon is a hybrid memoir that weaves a daughter’s journey of discovering her Filipino immigrant father’s hidden past with imaginative storytelling, offering a look into migration, identity, and the intergenerational legacies that shape who we are.
Presented by TOPAZ ARTS and co-hosted with Koktails, Nita Noveno has gathered stellar guests for readings, performances, music and more to illuminate sections of her new book, including:
Margaret Rhee and Lara Stapleton — eminent emcees
Luis H. Francia — poet, playwright, and nonfiction writer; author of Eye of the Fish: A Personal Archipelago
Bino Realuyo — novelist and poet; author of The Umbrella Country
Hossannah Asuncion — poet and author of Object Permanence
Arvee Garde — Pekiti Tirsia Kali instructor based in Woodside, Queens; performing a short solo demonstration
DJ DubSix — DJ and music curator and longtime collaborator with Sunday Salon NYC.
Attendance is free with RSVP. Books will be available for purchase and signed by the author.
About the Author:
Nita Noveno is the recipient of the 2024 Women’s Prose Prize from Red Hen Press for her hybrid memoir Mud on the Moon, forthcoming in August 2026. She teaches composition and literature at the Borough of Manhattan Community College, City University of New York, and is the founder and host emeritus of Sunday Salon, a long-running reading series in New York City. A graduate of the MFA Creative Writing Program at The New School, her work has appeared in MĀNOA, Identity Theory, Brink, and the Asian American Writers’ Workshop’s Open City and The Margins, among other publications. Originally from Southeast Alaska, she lives in Queens, NY.

Koktails is a salon of Filipino artists and thinkers of New York City, a series of social gatherings with special guests in conversation, curated by Lara Stapleton, initiated in 2024 with Sarah Gambito and Joseph Legaspi. Among past guests have been authors Gina Apostol and Albert Samaha, filmmakers Ramona Diaz and Diane Paragas, Colbert Show writer Michael Cruz Kayne, producer and designer Clint Ramos, and Purple Yam’s Amy Besa and Romy Dorotan. These moving gatherings have been meaningful to our community, bringing vital conversations and boisterous laughs to each event.
