Nine PBS Drawn In Literacy Power Hour

Drawn In is an integrated media experience designed to encourage reading for kids ages 6-8, yet Drawn In Literacy Power Hours are open to all ages. It includes video vignettes, a game, comics, and community resources that build a rich, connected, and highly engaging story for kids to strengthen their literacy skills and reading comprehension.

Nine PBS, Lion Forge Animation, and Makefully created this diverse content that emulates authentic experiences for under-represented audiences made by creators of color. Lion Forge Animation, the Academy Award-winning creators of Hair Love, partnered with Nine PBS and Makefully to develop a multi-platform pilot initiative that prioritizes community outcomes.

This Literacy Power Hour Cohort will receive a Nine PBS station tour, hands-on experiences, comic books to build at-home libraries and be celebrated at the conclusion by youth readings of comics.

Youth will:

1) increase their enthusiasm for reading

2) strengthen their literacy skills – specifically vocabulary

3) build confidence/skills in creative writing

By registering, you will have access to attend all 6 sessions (all from 11-12pm):

Session 1 - July 16th

Session 2 - July 18th

Session 3 - July 23rd

Session 4 - July 25th

Session 5 - July 30th

Session 6 - August 1

This intergenerational experience is designed for grownups and young people to remain together for the session. Not a drop-off program. All ages of family members welcome.
