Night/Shift
Schedule
Thu May 30 2024 at 05:00 pm to 09:00 pm
UTC-05:00Location
The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art | Kansas City, KS
Night/Shift occurs a few times a year and always promises new experiences. Headlined by DJs, visual artists, and live performers, each night features a fresh combination of pop-up projects, interactive demonstrations, artmaking, and unexpected ways of exploring the museum.
Inspired by the exhibitions Niki de Saint Phalle: Rebellion and Joy, A Layered Presence−Una presencia estratificada, and Melissa Shook: To Prove that I Exist, this inaugural Night/Shift amplifies ideas of self-empowerment and creative defiance. Take a cue from our featured artists and the art on view to ask yourself “What if…?” — then see where it takes you.
Featured lineup:
-Sass-a-Brass, Kansas City’s queer street brass band takes you on a parade through the museum.
-DJs SirQueen and Amanda of the Queer House Collective get you dancing with disco vibes.
-Textile artist and mender Alyx Jacobs leads a live stitching demo exploring personal symbols of power.
-Artist Hunter Silvey’s pop-up installation immerses you in a patchwork of fabrics, plastics, light, and color to support healing and wellbeing.
-Artists featured in the exhibition A Layered Presence/Una presencia estratificada Emily Alvarez, Carlos Ortiz, and Vania Soto introduce you to their work and invite you to get creative through live demos and artmaking.
-KC Zine Con leads a drop-in zine-making workshop.
-Healing with Lisa shares traditions of tarot and offers clarity and confirmation on your big questions.
