An invitation to see differently: moving through Hockney's moonlight, where art becomes a rehearsal for how we meet the future.
About this Event

Night Shift at MODO

15th to 20th January 2026 only!

A sensory experience inspired by David Hockney’s Normandy Nocturne paintings.

Across five evenings and two rare early-morning sessions, the gallery transforms into a slow, moonlit observatory, a place to look differently, feel differently, and move through darkness and first light with unusual attention.

Each session is designed for a different quality of perception:

  • Thursday 15th: 5:30am - 7:30am Dawn (Opening Ritual) — for those who understand the clarity of early morning before the world wakes
  • Friday 16th: 5:00pm - 7:00pm Dusk — the soft descent into night
  • Saturday 17th: 7:00pm - 9:00pm Night — the blue hours where seeing shifts
  • Sunday 18th: 5:00pm - 7:00pm Threshold — the passage back towards light
  • Monday 19th: 5:30am-7:30am Dawn (Closing Ritual) — for those who understand the clarity of early morning befre the world wakes

Visitors enter in staggered small groups.

Pause, turn off phones and slow down.

Slip out of your shoes and pop on your slippers, relax.

Warm Normandy Apple Blossom tea is offered.

The building itself becomes part of the experience; sound, light, shadow, stillness.

Realign under a Suspended Moon, move slowly, let your eyes adjust, the moon teaches attention. Pause. Stay as long as your breath allows.

The Dusk It is not an ending. It is the beginning of seeing differently.

Moonlight Immersion. Look and move slowly. Moonlight quiets the mind. Some artworks brighten in daylight, these change in the dark and seep into sunrise.

Spring begins in the dark. Let colour return. This circle is a threshold.

The Stillness Room. Sit, Let the world fall away for a moment. You do not need to understand anything. Just notice.

Reflection Room. Before you re-enter the day or night… pause. What changed in you between dark and light? You may rest here. No hurry.

Created with ACE CIC, whose work explores art as a catalyst for cognitive evolution and deeper ways of seeing.
