Night Photography Workshop - Leeds
About this Event
This practical Low Light Photography workshop at Leeds Dock will help you get confident photographing when the light levels drop, from blue hour through to proper night-time photography.
We’ll explore how to make the most of available light, reflections, shadows, colour and artificial light, while learning how to keep control of your camera when your usual daytime settings stop working.
You’ll learn how to:
Understand what changes when shooting in low light
Get comfortable using slower shutter speeds
Balance aperture, shutter speed and ISO
Avoid blurry, underexposed or noisy images
Use Leeds Dock’s lights, architecture and reflections creatively
Make the most of blue hour and the transition into night
Create atmospheric images rather than simply trying to make things look bright
Work confidently with your camera in changing light
We’ll be out and about around Leeds Dock, looking at the same locations as the light changes, and putting the techniques into practice as we go.
This is a hands-on workshop, so expect to take plenty of photographs rather than sit through a long technical presentation.
Who is it for?
Ideal if you’re comfortable with the basics of your camera but want to become more confident photographing in low light.
You don't need to be an expert, and you don't need fancy equipment. A camera with manual controls and a tripod are recommended.
By the end of the session, you should feel much more comfortable heading out with your camera after dark and knowing what to do when the light gets tricky.
Bring: camera, fully charged batteries, memory card, tripod if you have one, and something warm to wear. We’ll be outside for the session.
Location: Leeds Dock
