Tales from the Ransomware Attack Chain: A Technical Deep Dive into How Ransomware Actually Operates
Speaker: Jarrod Coulter | Sr. Director, ROC @ Halcyon
Abstract: Ransomware isn't just encryption with a ransom note, it's a full-spectrum intrusion that most organizations don't truly understand until they're staring at one. This talk pulls back the curtain on the modern ransomware attack chain, walking through the real technical stages from initial access and credential harvesting through lateral movement, defense evasion, data exfiltration, and the encryption event itself. Drawing on years of red team operations and hands-on ransomware incident response, Jarrod Coulter breaks down the tools, techniques, and procedures (TTPs) that ransomware operators actually use in the wild.
