About this Event
Are you ready to make history a party?
Presented by Christina Bailey of The Creative Voice and sponsored by The Arts Council for Monterey County, Baroque & Unknown is a Special Event Series and music education community initiative that aims to celebrate and showcase the works of underrepresented women, and marginalized, composers from the Baroque era, while blending history, music, food, drinks, and immersive experiences into a night of community fun. We're making history a party and you just gotta be there!
This event is perfect for people who love music, parties, food, and conversation with community. You do not have to know Baroque music, or be a classical music lover to enjoy the party. In fact, you might enjoy it more!
Event Highlights:
Expert Guest Speakers & Performers
Join us for the grand finale of the Baroque & Unknown series as we explore the evolution of musical representation from Baroque to today. Featuring Nicola Shangrow Reilly, CEO of the Monterey Symphony, and three-time Emmy Award-winning composer John Wineglass, this evening will dive into how classical music has shifted to include more diverse voices throughout history.
Nicola will curate a trio of players to perform works by Baroque composers Jacquet de la Guerre and Isabelle Charrière, as well as other composers featured through the series, setting the stage for a lively discussion with John about how these early voices paved the way for more inclusive narratives in music. Don’t miss this special conversation that bridges the past and the present.
Food & Drink Pairings & Tastings:
Each night of the series we'll feature a fun lineup of cocktails, mocktails, and snacks curated around the night's composers and themes. We're grateful to our partners Uncle Nearest and Chic Charcturique for creatively planning unique experiences for each night of the series. If you need more food for dinner, upgrade your ticket with a Girl Dinner box.
