Nick Abbey Quintet – The Ellington Jazz Club [Aug 12]
Led by bassist/composer Nick Abbey, this quintet unites five of Perth’s most respected improvisers, long-time collaborators whose shared history fuels a fiery, ever-engaging musical rapport.
Nick Abbey (double bass/compositions)
Ricki Malet (trumpet)
Jeremy Thomson (guitar)
Chris Foster (piano)
Daniel Susnjar (drums)
A distinctive compositional voice in his own right, Abbey is a four-time WAM Jazz Song of the Year winner, National Jazz Awards finalist, Freedman Jazz Fellowship nominee, APRA Professional Development Award finalist, and PhD graduate. Alongside his own projects, Abbey is widely recognised as one of WA’s most in-demand jazz accompanists.
This band's return to The Ellington Jazz Club's stage will see it perform music from Abbey's acclaimed 'Phantoms' project alongside new songs inspired by the likes of Brad Mehldau, Pat Metheny, Aaron Parks, Kurt Rosenwinkel, and Wolfgang Muthspiel — plus a few exciting left turns.
