About this Event
The Santa Monica Mountains have endured unprecedented change since 2025 began. Now the Resource Conservation District of the Santa Monica Mountains is hoping to heal just a small piece of this scarred space.
Though we are currently unable to access burn areas, continuing to restore other wildlands within the Santa Monica Mountains is critical, perhaps now more than ever. We're calling on volunteers to become a direct part of restoring damaged wildlands and join us in our first tree care event since recent fires.
During this event volunteers will help the RCDSMM care for previously planted oaks by watering, weeding, and mulching trees as well as planting new acorns at Nicholas Flat in Leo Carrillo State Park, an area damaged by the Woolsey Fire in 2018. Volunteers will also collect meaningful data to aid in an ongoing reforestation project the RCDSMM is conducting.
Please wear clothes you are willing to get dirty in as well as durable shoes. Be sure to bring a sun hat, layers and drinking water. Please note while this is an ADA accessible event, there are no restrooms on site. However our team can direct you to a nearby location.
We will be meeting at the trailhead of Nicholas Flat at Decker School Rd. Carpooling to this event is encouraged as parking is limited!
We look forward to your help in our efforts to reforest the wildlands of the Santa Monica Mountains!
