The French department is happy to announce the screening of the film La Famille Bélier on Friday 30th September 5.30pm. Open to all.
About this Event

La famille Bélier is a 2014 Franco-Belgian coming-of-age comedy-drama film directed by Éric Lartigau which received six nominations at the 40th César Awards, winning Most Promising Actress for Louane Emera. It also won a Magritte Award in the category of Best Foreign Film.

An English-language remake of the film, CODA, premiered in January 2021 and won three Academy Awards, including Best Picture.

The film tells the story of Paula, whose parents and brother are deaf. She has to serve as an interpreter in day to day life but especially in the running of the family farm. One day, a music teacher discovers her gift for singing and encourages Paula to audition for the prestigious music college in Paris. However, this decision would mean leaving her family and taking her first steps towards adulthood. It is a remarkable story, and huge fun.

The film will be screened in French, with English subtitles.
