After-school bootcamp during which kids ages 8-12 unleash their digital creativity by designing and producing art using apps and tablets
About this Event

(Bilingual bootcamp taught in a combination of Dutch and English by a professional, native-Dutch speaking teacher. Due to generous corporate donations, subsidized spots are available for children from a low-income families with a Stadspas.)

Theme: Art and Digital Creativity

NewTechKids has designed this after-school bootcamp to provide an alternative to kids' passive tech consumption. Our classes will help them use technology to develop their creativity and explore digital art and design.

During this 7-week bootcamp on Wednesday afternoons, kids ages 8-12 will discover that apps and tech devices aren't only for scrolling, watching videos, gaming and messaging. They'll learn how to use them to create and produce a portfolio of digital art.

Each week, kids will create using different art forms, including web-based drawing, pixel art, stop motion, animation and music beat making. We'll also introduce kids to AI through AI art, discussing the ethical side of generative AI, explaining how prompts work and providing guidance on how to formulate effective prompts. Kids will also acquire an understanding of user interfaces and practice navigating app and tablet functionalities.

Classes will take place on Wednesdays from 16:15 - 17:45 on the following dates:

November 5, 12, 19 and 26, 2025
December 3, 10 and 17, 2025

This bootcamp will be taught in a combination of Dutch and English by a professional teacher with specialised training in digital art.

Our camp is ideal for children with no previous exposure to art and design and those who have previously participated in NewTechKids programs.

A minimum of 12 students is required to offer this bootcamp. Registrants will be notified 3 days prior if the camp is cancelled and a full refund will be provided.

Location: Openbare Bibliotheek Amsterdam, Oosterdokskade 143 in the Junior Lab basement (5-minute walk from Centraal Station)
