Lessons Learned on how adaptive thermal comfort and deep borehole geothermal strategies can further decarbonise office buildings
About this Event

This work investigates how adaptive thermal comfort and deep borehole geothermal strategies can further decarbonise office buildings that are already well insulated with the building fabrics. The case study utilises Urban Sciences Building at Newcastle University, and the adjacent borehole - Newcastle Science Central Deep Geothermal Wellbore - for an exploration using modelling simulation. Overall, this study shows that using a DBHE and adaptive thermal comfort approach to well-insulated buildings presents an innovative and low-cost opportunity for buildings to significantly lower building thermal demand and carbon emissions.
