About the Artists & Programme
Pianist Annie Ball and cellist Katie Tertell join forces to perform Beethoven’s Cello Sonata No. 3 in A major, a work that marked a turning point in the composer’s writing for the instrument — full of warmth, conversation and daring invention. Annie will also perform Ravel’s Jeux d’eau, a shimmering impressionistic showpiece inspired by water, which she recently studied with renowned pianist James Lisney in France who carries a teaching lineage that can be traced directly back to Chopin through generations of pianist-pedagogues.
About the Festival
Founded in 2023, the Newcastle Piano Festival celebrates excellence, innovation, education and community through performance, outreach and new music. It brings together professional artists, young musicians and local audiences across the North East, offering mentorship, outreach in schools and opportunities for underrepresented voices.
With public funding for the arts increasingly limited, events like this VIP Festival Reveal are vital in sustaining our work — helping us to support emerging artists, nurture creativity in young people, and keep world-class piano music thriving in our region.
