New York Choral Society: A Child of Our Time
Every Generation Must Decide What Kind of World It Wants to Build.
The week before the 2026 midterm elections, join us for a concert that asks a simple but urgent question:
What does resistance sound like?
Written in response to the rise of fascism in Europe and the events that led to Kristallnacht, Sir. Michael Tippett’s A Child of Our Time was a powerful act of protest. Nearly 90 years later, its message still hits home.
Filled with gripping spirituals such as Steal Away, Nobody Knows the Trouble I’ve Seen, and Deep River, A Child of Our Time transforms grief into action and despair into hope. Tippett’s compositions begin in darkness but ends with renewal, reminding us that even in difficult times, a better future is worth fighting for.
