New York Chess Club Olympiad 2024

The Annual invitational Chess Club Olympiad takes place Saturday, September 28th to decide this year's Champion Chess Club. 2023 saw Prospect Park Chess Club take the crown after tiebreaks with Bushwick Chess. All teams from last year are invited to participate along with two new chess clubs.

Format of Round Robin:

Nine total games in a Round Robin style event, consisting of nine (9) 5|2 Blitz games. Winner of the Tournament will be decided on match point count at the end of Round Robin. In the event of a draw for first, both teams will play one (1) round of eight vs eight winner takes the crown. Each team will have a bye round to break. Club teams must consist of eight players in permanent positions, outside of one substitution player which must be announced before the event, and one position swap allowed per team. Players on the top four boards may not swap to positions lower than 1-4.

Using the official USCF ruling, this tournament follows the touch move rule.

Touch move- If you touch a piece, you must move it. If the piece has no legal moves, there is no penalty for touching it. If you touch an opponent's piece, you must capture it if possible. When castling, you must touch your king first. If you touch the rook first, you have to move the rook.

If your opponent touches a piece and doesn't move it, you should stop the clock and call a Tournament Director for further instruction.

Teams consist of eight players. All players must provide ratings and full names for entry. Team rating average must not exceed 1850. USCF/FIDE/NYCR ratings accepted and the highest of three ratings will be mandatory. Entry totals $30 per player at the door or beforehand for the full team. Short break between rounds four and five. Prizes: Top Performance on Team, Highest Points/Crown Holder team Prize and more.

Crown Holder Team will hold the colloquial title of best club in NYC until next year's Chess Club Olympiad. Current Club Entries: Astoria Chess, Bushwick Chess, Daily Press, North Brooklyn Chess Club, Park Slope Chess, “Crown Holders” Prospect Chess Club, Queers Gambit, Renegades, and Williamsburg Chess.
