ABOUT NEW YORK BRASS BAND
New York Brass Band are North Yorkshire’s only contemporary New Orleans inspired Brass Band. Hailing from the ancient streets of York, the band are at the forefront of a funky brass revolution that is sweeping the UK. Inspired by Rebirth Brass Band, Soul Rebels, Hot 8, Youngblood and Brassroots, NYBB pack a powerful punch of relentless drums, rumbling tuba and wailing horns… nothing kicks a party into gear like the sound of a smokin’ New Orleans Mardi Gras Jazz Band.
The band has played at some of the best festivals and events in the world. It has appeared at celebrity weddings and played for royalty. Every year, they pound the train tracks at Glasto to appear all over the festival, and regularly play Cork Jazz Festival, Durham Brass, Latitude and Boomtown. They have entertained Danny Jones, Kylie Minogue, Jamie Oliver, Ellie Goulding and Liam Gallagher. Their corporate clients include Manchester City FC, Yorkshire Tea, Centre Parcs, Brewdog, Harvey Nichols, DHL, Chatsworth House, ASDA and the NFL! They say “If we didn’t literally blow our own trumpet, who else is gonna do it?” !
They might hail from the ancient city of York, but they have got New Orleans soul burning in their veins. New York Brass Band was created by The Boss… not Bruce, but James, back in 2011. Now he and his grown up children, Joe, Charlie and Grace, along with some of the most talented brass musicians this side of the Pennines, spend their days bringing joy and laughter (not to mention tired feet) to festival lovers, wedding couples and guests and events, around the world.
