New Years Day Hike - Claremont Branch

Bring in the New Year with a 3-mile hike of an unbuilt planned Baltimore City shared-use path that connects the Gwynns Falls Trail to the Catonsville Short Line Trail. The hike will start at Carroll Park and travel along the Gwynns Falls Trail before jumping (over a 4' railing) onto the disused Claremont Branch Railroad. We will follow the Claremont Branch Railroad over Wilkens Ave and Caton Ave and then travel under the NEC via the disused Primrose Tunnel. The rest of the hike will follow the Catonsville Short Line Railroad ROW within Loudon Park Cemetery. The hike will end at the newly opened Beechfield Section of the Catonsville Short Line Trail.

Warning: This hike will be difficult. Hikers must be able to cross a 4' guard rail, walk on uneven ground, cross two railroad bridges, and travel through a partially buried pedestrian tunnel.

09:15 am - Leave Carroll Park

9:40 am - Claremont Branch and Wilmarco Ave

10:00 am- Claremont Branch and Wellesley

10:20 am - Primrose Tunnel

10:30 am - Maiden Choice Run and Catonsville Rails To Trails (CSLT)

10:45 am - CSLT at Earthen Bridge

10:55 am - CSLT at Illegal Burials

11:05 am - CSLT at Beechfield Ave

11:15 am - Shuttle Back to Carroll Park

11:30 am - Arrive Back at Carroll Park

We will stop at each location to share information about the trail or the property. At the end of the hike, hikers can return the way they came. Those purchasing shuttle tickets will be transported back to Carroll Park.
