Start the new year as you mean to go on with a healthy enjoyable run, walk, jog around Mote Park, Maidstone at a New Years Day Orienteering Event. Mote Park is listed as one of the UK's top 10 parks.This is a good area for orienteering. There are lots of clear features - ponds, rivers, monuments to use to navigate, and also some more challenging wooded areas to test your navigation skills. It's also a pretty park and a decent size.
This is a 1 hour 'score' course starting at 11-11.15 am. There is no set route. Simply find as many of the checkpoints in the 1 hour time limit as you can. If you can't find one, just skip and go to the next. So the format is suitable for the complete beginner to the more experienced.
There is a 'short' course designed for beginners and those that don't want to run too far, and a 'long' course designed for those with some experience and who want a longer run.
You will receive a map and the course this year will be available virtually via an App called MapRun which you will need to download onto your smart phone before the event. You can complete in a group or on your own. Run, walk or jog. Club membership not needed. Pre-entry online before the event at https://racesignup.co.uk/site/event.php?eventid=3962
Entry fees £7 senior (non members), £5 (club members), £3 juniors, £10 group.
