🌿 NEW TERRITORIES OF FOODSCAPES
Urban-Rural Landscapes and Feeding Territories
International Scientific Conference in Warsaw
📅 9–10 October 2026
📍 Warsaw | ZODIAK Warsaw Architecture Pavilion & MOST Urban Cooperative Farm
How are contemporary cities fed — spatially, politically and imaginatively?
New Territories of Foodscapes brings together researchers, architects, landscape architects, planners, artists, activists and practitioners to explore food as a key dimension of contemporary urban and rural transformation.
The Warsaw edition, Urban-Rural Landscapes and Feeding Territories, focuses on the changing relationships between city and countryside: metropolitan expansion into agricultural land, the return of productive landscapes into urban space, new forms of urban farming and commons, and the role of food, water, soil and biodiversity in building more resilient cities and urban regions.
🌱 Friday, 9 October | ZODIAK Warsaw Architecture Pavilion | 08:30–19:00
The programme opens with keynote lectures by:
🎤 David Fanfani, Florence University
A new foodscape to reconnect urban and rural domains. A bioregional planning prospect
🎤 Aleksandra Wasilkowska, Shadow Architecture
Shadow Architecture: Food Infrastructure Beyond Formal Planning
The programme also includes the presentation of the research project:
Urban Feeding Zone: Professions of the Future at the Interface of City and Countryside
with Maciej Łepkowski, Aleksandra Nowysz and Joanna Erbel.
The scientific programme is organised around three thematic sessions:
SESSION 1 — Urban-Rural Commons: Productive Landscapes, Community Practices and Resilience
SESSION 2 — Blue-Green Infrastructure for Productive Cities: Food, Water and Gardens
SESSION 3 — Designing for Urban Farming: Architecture, Infrastructure and Productive Space
Throughout the day we will discuss urban and peri-urban agriculture, community gardens, food-system governance, productive landscapes, climate adaptation, water retention, urban resilience, architecture and new forms of food infrastructure.
🎬 The programme also includes a Film Screening & Discussion, a Coffee Break by Kobiety Wędrowne – Collective Presentation, and a presentation of the special Foodscapes issue of Autoportret magazine.
🥂 21:00 — informal get-together at Cafe Kulturalna, Warsaw
🌿 Saturday, 10 October | MOST Urban Cooperative Farm | 12:00–14:00
The second day moves from the conference room into the productive landscape itself:
12:00–13:00 | Field Trip – MOST Urban Cooperative Farm
Guided tour of the farm
13:00–14:00 | Closing Research & Networking Session on the Farm
Towards Common Research Agendas
The closing session will provide space to discuss future international collaborations and joint research projects around feeding territories, productive landscapes, food-system governance, urban resilience, landscape commons and water–soil–food relations.
🎟 Participation is free of charge.
The conference will be held in person and the working language is English.
The Warsaw conference forms part of the research project Urban Feeding Zone: Professions of the Future at the Interface of City and Countryside, carried out by the Warsaw University of Life Sciences (WULS–SGGW) and funded by the Polish Ministry of Science and Higher Education.
