New Swimmer Placement Evaluations – Join River Rats for Spring/Summer 2026!

River Rats Swim Club is getting ready to kick off our Spring/Summer 2026 season on April 20, and we’re inviting new swimmers and families from Horseheads, Corning, and surrounding communities to come see what our team is all about.
If your child is interested in competitive swimming, our New Swimmer Placement Evaluations are the perfect first step.

Evaluation Dates
Wednesday, April 15 at 6:30 PM
Corning-Painted Post High School
Thursday, April 16 at 6:00 PM
Horseheads High School
New swimmers may attend either location/date.
Who should come?
Swimmers ages 5 through college who are interested in joining a competitive swim team and have completed swim lesson levels or are comfortable in the water.
Recommended readiness for beginners
To be successful in a swim team setting, it is recommended that swimmers can:
Swim 1 length of freestyle (50 yards) without stopping or grabbing the wall/lane line
Swim 1 length of backstroke (25 yards) without stopping
Follow instructions and remain attentive
Be comfortable putting their face in the water
Tread water for about 60 seconds
Be comfortable in deep water
River Rats is a competitive swim team, and our coaches focus on stroke technique, skill development, endurance, and race preparation. Practices are not a replacement for learn-to-swim lessons.
