Somatics – Move with Ease - New Summer 8 week coursewith Kath Revell / Ninja Granny
Thursdays 11.15am, starting 4th - 23rd July 2026
Somatics is natural movement, which is movement that is co-ordinated through the centre of the body. The aim is to release tension, which brings relief. Tension can be physical, mental and emotional and is held in the body. It builds up over time, becoming habitual. Habitual tension often can’t be felt, and if it can’t be felt it can’t be released. The slow, focussed movements of Somatics help you to discover that tension, then release it. The technique is to tighten your muscles, increasing the tension, so you can feel it. Once you feel it you can slowly relax the muscles. The slowness of the release is key. It gives your nervous system time to reset the tension in the muscles. This creates lasting change.
It’s the experience of slowly contracting and releasing the muscles that is “somatic” - it’s an experience of yourself moving, an experience of feeling yourself let go. Over time you get more and more in tune with your body, become more and more co-ordinated, and it’s a virtuous circle – the more you can sense the better you can move, and the better you can move the more you can sense, and so you keep improving.
This course is for everyone and especially for people who have pain issues. The exercises are done lying on the floor, so you need to be able to get up and down, but only once in the session and you can use a chair if needed. By the end of the course, you will be able to create a daily practise.
Course content:
1. Exploring pandiculation: Movements include shoulder releases and “arch and flatten”.
2. Moving from your centre: Movements include “the flower”
