Another instalment in the New Routes series, an evening of acoustic, folk and roots artists.
Set out cabaret style with candles on tables, it’s a comfortable and intimate space to listen to the best emerging and established artists from the area.
Featuring…
Amy Hollinrake
Amy Hollinrake is a rising artist emerging from the same South-East London folk scene as outfits such as Broadsides Hacks and Shovel Dance Collective. Her songs re-imagine the stories in folklore and mythology through a modern feminist lens, soundtracked by her hauntingly beautiful and earthy brand of contemporary alt-folk. Musical touchstones include Joanna Newsom, Joni Mitchell, Sandy Denny, and the new era of feminist folk artists such as Paris Paloma.
Her most recent EP release ‘Sad Lady Songs Vol.1.’ garnered attention from the likes of BBC 6 Music’s Marc Riley and Tom Robinson, BBC Introducing and an interview and feature on BBC Radio 4 Woman’s Hour. She also gained prestigious awards from EFDSS, Help Musicians and the Bert Jansch Foundation for her work. In October 2024 she was invited to research and record a selection of English folk songs for BBC Radio 3’s ‘Between The Ears’ documentary. She is the English Folk Dance and Song Society’s current artist is resident 24/25 and supported by Help Musicians for her recent debut UK Tour.
She has performed at Cambridge Folk Festival, Sidmouth Folk Festival and Secret Garden Party and at notable shows in and around London including, The Harrison, (London), The Black Swan (York), Traverse Theatre (Edinburgh) and Cambridge Junction, as well as lending her soaring vocals to major label signed Don Broco’s Royal Albert Hall, London show. Last year she performed at a specially curated folk night at Café OTO to launch her Loathly Lady Zine (a literary offering of illustrations and critical perspectives on traditional folk music through a distinctly modern lens with words from Angeline Morrison). She is currently collaborating with Frankie Armstrong and EFDSS on Loathly Lady archive and album supported by The Arts Council DYCP grant.
Next year looks to be even more exciting as Amy is set to release new music, play Celtic Connections and her biggest London Headline show to date.

Maz O’Connor
Described by The Observer as ‘a highly individual singer-songwriter’, Maz O’Connor is a truly unique artist.
Known for her haunting, emotive vocals and her poetic lyricism, her songs are most often short stories inspired by her love of literature, folklore and mythology.
She wrote her first song aged four, whilst making a ‘radio show’ with a cassette player, and grew up singing old folk songs in her local Cumbrian venues. She went onto study Literature at Jesus College, Cambridge, where she dove deep into the history of folk song. It was during this time that she started to write her own songs.
Winning a BBC Performing Arts Fund Fellowship in 2014 (once won by Adele) brought Maz to wider attention, and later that year she was nominated for a BBC Folk Award for her first album, ‘This Willowed Light’.
Maz has since released 3 further albums, toured the U.K., Europe and Canada, played live sessions on BBC Radio 2 and 3, and appeared at major U.K. festivals, including Glastonbury and WOMAD.
She has also written book, music & lyrics for the folk musical ‘The Wife of Michael Cleary’, which won the Stiles + Drewe Prize 2023 and is currently in development with West End producers.
After taking a few years out of recording and performing to have her son and work on her musical, Maz recorded her new album, ‘Love it is a Killing Thing’ in April 2025. Recorded live to tape in Spring 2025, this record is a collection of ancient songs about the perils of love, reimagined and in some cases re-composed by Maz. It marks a triumphant return to her folk roots.
“BBC Performing Arts Fellowship graduate Maz O’Connor is a real find, fusing influences from the past (Joni Mitchell) with those of the present (Bon Iver) to concoct a dazzling array of part electric, part-acoustically crafted folk that occasionally borders on the experimental.” Drowned in Sound
‘Maz O’Connor’s ace, apart from her remarkable songwriting talent, is her captivating voice’ **** Q
‘Exquisitely crafted songs’ **** The Financial Times
‘She sings and plays beautifully’ ***** Songlines
