About this Event

On June 23rd, we present : "Rethinking Home, Care, and Housing" by Prof. Victor Perez-Amado.

What does β€œhome” look like when traditional housing systems fail to meet people’s needs?

In this timely and thought-provoking lecture, Victor Perez-Amado explores the intersections of queer households, aging, and housing inequality through a socio-spatial lens. Focusing on shared living practices in Canada, he examines how older adults and 2SLGBTQI+ communities navigate exclusionary housing systems while creating alternative models of care, connection, and cohabitation.

As loneliness, affordability pressures, and aging populations reshape cities, these community-based housing models offer powerful insights into how we might design more inclusive futures. The lectures highlights how shared households can reduce social isolation, strengthen care networks, and challenge assumptions about who housing is built for.

Blending research, policy, and real-world examples, this lecture offers a fresh perspective on one of today’s most urgent urban questions: how do we create homes that support dignity, belonging, and care across the lifespan?
