Sister Kate Dance Company Boot Camps are a chance for you to get to experience what it's like to be a Chorus Dancer!
About this Event

Join the Sister Kate Dance Company for a BRAND NEW 4-week class experience, where students will learn a classic style chorus line choreography to perform for the public.

This January / February 2023 we’re struttin' our stuff down to New Orleans for a Second-Line-Parade style jazzy number that is sure to put a smile on your face and a pep in your step. Grab your Mardi Gras beads and come join the fun!

❣️ VACCINATED STUDENTS ONLY

If you have longed to dance in a group of like-minded jazz dance lovin' souls, then this series is for you!

? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ?

Over the course of 4 weeks, you will:

  • Learn an original choreography, choreographed by a Sister Kate dancer
  • Work on performance presence on stage
  • Connect with other eager and enthusiastic dancers in town
  • Perform the routine (in person unless Covid safety dictates otherwise) in front of a live audience

????? WHO IS INVITED ?????

Anyone (21+) who is happy to wear the “team costume” is WELCOME to take part; all genders welcome, you only need to wear the team costume as planned for everyone!

????? WHEN and WHERE ?????

Classes are at the Russian Community Center of Seattle (main ballroom) 704 19th Ave E, Seattle, WA 98112

  • Wednesday, Jan 18: 6:30pm-8pm (PST)
  • Wednesday, Jan 25, Feb 1, Feb 8: 7pm-8pm (PST)

PERFORMANCE PREMIER: Saturday, February 11th at Swing It Seattle's dance (at the Polish Association Home on Capitol Hill)

* It is preferred that you are present for all classes to perform, but please reach out if there is an issue of some kind that prohibits your attendance.

* If you are feeling ill, please do not attend class and watch the review videos to get caught up!

????? COST ?????

$92 per dancer, for 4.5-5.5 hours of instruction, performance prep, and additional review material after class. This slightly-more-expensive-than-normal ticket price DOES include a parasol for you to keep!

  • We do have a handful of Discounted Pricing Option Tickets available, for those that would like to take the class but are restricted by financial limitations. Please inquire with us about these!
  • IF you have a Sister Kate Gift Card you'd like to redeem for this boot camp, grab one of the appropriate tickets in registration (limited to availability)

????? WHAT ROUTINE WILL WE LEARN? ?????

We will be learning an original choreography by company members, Robin Nunnally and Jen Nelson

????? WHAT WILL I WEAR? ?????

CLASS SESSIONS

Wear anything comfy that you can move and sweat in + your mask. We recommend that you wear the shoes you will perform in so you are accustomed to how they will feel.

PERFORMANCE

  • For this performance - have SO MUCH FUN putting together your own mardi gras look! Feathers, beads, fringe, ruffles... it's all encouraged. The only thing you must do is stick to the color scheme: GOLD, PURPLE, and GREEN.
  • Shoes: We also ask that all students wear some sort of black t-strap character shoe heel. We recommend either Bloch brand or Capezio (1.5-2" is best). The good news is that we wear these shoes for 99% of our boot camps, so it really is a one time investment. Need more info? Feel free to reach out!

?? Please do not purchase any NEW costume pieces before we chat about this in person as a class.

????? Q & A ?????

DO I HAVE TO PERFORM OR CAN I JUST TAKE THE CLASS?

It is not required that you participate in the performance to take the class, although what's the fun in that?

CAN ANYONE PERFORM?

As long as you are willing to wear the "costume look", and attend all the class rehearsals (or catch up via video if need be), then you're absolutely in for performing!

WHAT IF I HAVE OTHER QUESTIONS LATER?

You can post them to our student Facebook group, or email us at [email protected].

WHAT DO I DO AFTER I SIGN UP?

Keep an eye on your email account (check your spam folder, too!) for student prep emails coming from Sister Kate leading up to the class!

????????????????????

Haven't attended a Sister Kate Dance Company boot camp before? Check out the video below from our last virtual boot camp to get an idea of what to expect!

? ? ? PHYSICAL DISCLAIMER ? ? ?

We will start off each class with some sort of warm-up, whether that be a freestyle dance or simply running the routine choreography we've learned. Please note that due to our limited time together, we don't have time to stretch while together, so please make sure you stretch on your own once your web camera is turned off!

❤️ ❤️ ❤️ CODE OF CONDUCT ❤️ ❤️ ❤️

We treat each other and ourselves with respect and compassion. We strictly prohibit discrimination and harassment based on race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, age, sex, sexual orientation, gender, gender expression, disability, or any other status protected by federal, state, or local laws.

? ? ? COVID GUIDELINES - PLEASE READ ? ? ?

Sister Kate Dance Company has been busy following the CDC guidelines + suggestions from medical professionals within our dance community, while also listening to dancers in our community who are immunocompromised and their needs.

UPDATED: November 2022 for SKDC

  • This class will be in person, with all students being required to show proof of vaccination (including boosters) before the start of class.
  • *** NEW: If you have received your Omicron-specific (bivalent) booster, you may opt to not wear a mask for class (without needing to "test out" of wearing one). If you have not yet received it, you may take the class, but we will expect you to continue wearing a mask for the duration of classes.
  • As always, we invite all students to wear masks, even if they qualify not to, based on your comfort levels.
  • For the performance, either way, you will have the opportunity to test out of your mask for the performance (inquire for more info)
  • Please note: As a small business, we reserve the right to request students start to wear masks again, should a new variant start to emerge that is cause for concern. Our community's safety is a top priority for us
  • In the event that the CDC and King County Public Health deem it is unsafe to continue dancing indoors together, we will shift to virtual for the remainder of the class and for the performance.

In the event that you test positive for covid and have been in class with us in the most recent 3-4 days, please do let the instructors and co-students know, so that we may all choose to get tested if individuals feel they would like to. Our biggest priority is safety for our community. Thank you for helping us to keep it safe!

REFUND/CANCELLATION POLICY

  • We allow refunds for our camps up to 2 weeks before the scheduled Boot Camp start date! This allows us to choreograph for a known number of attendees and not disrupt formations/numbers. Otherwise, your ticket is transferable (please reach out for additional info)
  • In the event of a cancellation by SKDC, we will refund your full amount asap.
